Binfer Private Cloud is available as a Windows Service, apart from the native Binfer application on Windows. Being a service, it is always running when the Windows is on (unless turned off deliberately), turns on automatically when after Windows restarts and always runs in the background. Therefore, it makes sure your file transfers are always on. You can control your application through a web application console that comes packaged with the service.
Private Cloud Windows Service is available under Binfer Enterprise plans.
There are some prerequisites for installing Private Cloud Windows Service.
Private Cloud Windows Service Installer
If you have purchased this service, you should have the installer. Please note that this installer is different from the native Binfer installer available at https://www.binfer.com/download
Private Cloud License
You need to have a Binfer Private Cloud Enterprise Server License before you can install Private Cloud Windows Service. Keep your e-mail and password ready before starting installation.
Using the service requires you to have an open port, on which the Binfer PC service as well as the web application console would run. If you need help on opening a port, refer to this article.
- Right click the Binfer Private Cloud Service installer and click "Run as Administrator" to begin installation.
- Click "Next" to start the wizard.
- Select the type of installation/user. You have two options. Select "Server" since this is a Server specific guide. Click "Next".
On this screen, you will find five fields. Make sure you fill this information correctly and double check, to avoid re-installation.
5. There are five fields on this screen:
- Binfer User ID/E-mail - this is the account user id you have the license with. This is usually an e-mail address.
- Binfer Password - the password associated with your Binfer account.
- Private Cloud Port - the port you opened to run the service and the web console. This should be already opened (see prerequisites).
- Binfer Download Location - This is the folder where all the downloads (files) will be stored in. This includes all the incoming files from syncs, messages, chat, etc. You can change this later from the web console.
- Binfer App Data Location - This is where all the Binfer data specific to your current installation will be stored, including account info, sync rules info, databases, private cloud files, etc. Deleting thi folder would result in resetting the service and would require a re-install.
6. Click next after you make sure all the information is correct.
7. On this screen, you will have an option to choose you Binfer application installation folder.
8. Click "Install". The application will start installing and you can click finish when it's done.
9. The Binfer service is now installed. You verify it by opening you Task Manager in Windows and navigating to "Services" tab. You will see the "BinferService" in the list of services with "Running" status next to it.
10. If the status is "Stopped", try starting it by right clicking and selecting "Start Service". If that doesn't start the service, there was some problem with the installation or the information you provided during installation. Uninstall the service and try doing a clean re-install to see if that works. If not, please contact the Binfer support team.
Uninstalling the Binfer Private Cloud Service
1. On your windows computer, go to Control Panel and click on "Programs and Features".
2. Select the "Binfer" program and click uninstall.
3. Follow the uninstall steps and the application will be removed.
4. Verify by opening your Task Manager and navigating to "Services". You should not the "BinferService" now.
5. You can keep the Binfer App Data folder (step 5 in installation) so that if you need to re-install, all your preferences are re-loaded. But for a clean re-install, consider deleting this folder or selecting a new folder.
